Complementary products

Set up product recommendations for each product to help customers discover complementary items. For example, if a customer is viewing a skincare product, you could recommend related products such as a cleanser, serum, or moisturiser to encourage additional purchases.

  1. In your Shopify dashboard, go to the Shopify App Store and download the free Shopify Search & Discovery app.
  2. Once installed, go to Apps and open the Search & Discovery app.
  3. To enable these recommendations on your website, make sure your product template has activated the Search & Discovery app to appear within the Shopify theme customiser.
  4. From your Shopify dashboard, in the left sidebar, click Recommendations.
  5. Select the product you would like to customise recommendations for.
  6. Under Related products, click Add recommendations.
  7. Search for and select the products you would like to manually recommend alongside that product.
  8. Under 'Edit complementary products' and 'Edit product recommendations', select the product recommendations. You can drag and reorder the products to control the display order on your storefront.
  9. Click Save once finished.
  10. Repeat this process for any products where you would like more curated recommendations instead of Shopify’s automatic suggestions.
